Bible Verses to Pray over 2021

Updated: Jan 6, 2021

As we reflect on the past year and look to what God wants to do in the next year, let's be intentional with praying over 2021. The Bible is always a great framework for our prayers.

Here are 10 topics to cover in prayer as we pray for 2021, and verses to guide those prayers.

1. Praying for Direction and Clarity

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." Psalm 32:8 NIV

Pray this verse: Lord, instruct me and teach me in 2021. Show me the way I should go. Counsel me with your loving eyes on me, and help me to follow your instructions.

2. Praying for Strength and Courage

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 NIV

Pray this verse: Lord, help me to not feel fear but to feel your presence with me instead. Give me strength and courage. Help me to believe you will help me, you will uphold me, and you will be my strength.

3. Praying for Healing

"Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." Jeremiah 17:14 NIV

Pray this verse: Heal me Lord, and I will be healed. (Pray specific things you want to see healing and receive healing for in your body and spirit.) For you are the one I praise!

4. Praying for Revival

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Pray this verse: Lord, turn our world toward you. Call your people, help us to humble ourselves, to pray and to seek your face and to turn from our wicked ways. Hear us from heaven, and forgive us of our sins. Lord, heal our land.

5. Praying for Unity

"Also in Judah the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind to carry out what the king and his officials had ordered, following the word of the Lord." 2 Chronicles 30:12

Pray this verse: God give my (family, church, community, or country) unity of mind to carry out what you have ordered for us. Give us the unity to follow your word actively.

6. Praying for Peace

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV

Pray this verse: Lord help me to find peace in you. Although I am facing difficult circumstances and have trouble in this world, help me to take heart and have peace knowing that you have overcome the world.

7. Praying for Wisdom

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5 NIV

Pray this verse: Lord I lack wisdom in (fill in the blank). I am asking you to generously give me wisdom in this area, show me which way to go and give me the wisdom to handle this in a way that honors and glorifies you.

8. Praying for Breakthrough

"So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, 'As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.' So that place was called Baal Perazim." 2 Samuel 5:20

Pray this verse: Lord you are the God who bursts through. You will defeat our enemies and bring breakthrough like waters bursting out. Bring breakthrough in (fill in the blank) today.

9. Praying for Favor

"Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield." Psalm 5:12

Pray this verse: Lord, thank you for making me righteous through your Son. Surround me with favor like a shield today.

10. Praying for Increase

"Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness." 2 Corinthians 9:10

Pray this verse: Lord you are the God who provides. I believe you will supply and increase what I have. I believe you will increase the harvest and I pray we would see you bring the harvest today.

Amen!
