Dreaming with God: Scripture to Pray Over your Craziest Dreams

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

A year (ish) ago I was a girl with a whiteboard and a dream. I felt discontent, and I was sitting in what I have since started calling a "holy unrest." I didn't feel settled. I wanted more from life and I felt like God was calling me to more but I also felt directionless and a little helpless.

Have you ever felt like your dreams were too big for God?

I often feel this way, some of the things I hope and dream for feel distant and far off, and some honestly just feel straight up impossible.

Since then, I've learned that this is actually exactly where God wants us. He wants you staring at an impossibility. Maybe that sounds cruel, or even a little strange. But it's actually because He loves you too much. He loves you too much to let you settle for a life that is anything but incredible, and miraculous.

When you stare at an impossibility, it actually invites you to stare at a God who can accomplish anything.

It invites you to dream bigger, to pray bigger, and to see God move in a personal, miraculous way in your life.

So back to my whiteboard...

I took time to rest and pray in God's presence. And I took out a whiteboard. On it, I wrote the craziest, wildest dreams I could come up with, and I invited God to speak into my life and to help me to dream bigger.

Some of those dreams felt impossible. "Get a book deal" is not a small feat, especially for a gal who is only twenty-five, has a pretty modest social media following, and has been told "no" more times than she can count by people in her industry.

But I continue to work hard and pray hard. Although God invites us to partner in the work, He is the One who really does most of it. Personally, I find that a relief. Working hard for me looks like writing earlier than the sun rises, and praying hard is praying continually and daily.

My whiteboard was, is and always will be impossible for me. But for God, the One who planted the dreams in my heart and made the hand that wrote them on the whiteboard, it's easy.

My whiteboard quickly turned into a reminder of God's faithfulness and a list of things that are all checked off.

Every single dream you have can become an answered prayer.

Lately, I've been staring at my whiteboard. It doesn't have enough on it. It doesn't feel impossible enough, and I've felt God whispering, dream bigger.

Because He can do it. And I actually think He wants to.

What's your biggest, wildest, craziest dream?

Here are some scripture passages you can pray over that dream. Write it down, pray for it continually, and watch God go to work for you.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Proverbs 16:3

"These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." Revelation 3:7-8

"The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:24

"And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Corinthians 9:8

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." 1 John 5:14

"He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" Romans 8:32

"None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord."Ezekiel 12:28

Let me know what promise from Scripture you're praying over your dreams this week!
